Scientific Evidence for Noah’s Flood
Examining some Scientific Theories
A- Bible & Science
1- Many scientists intimidate people of faith with their non-scientific theories shrouded in scientific language.
a- They say that truth is only arrived at through the scientific method.
(1) They refuse anything that is “faith-based”.
(2) They say faith is blind, without logic or reason.
(3) Hebrews 11:1— Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (NAS95)
(4) Romans 1:20-23 (ASV) For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse: (21) because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened. (22) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, (23) and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
b- We need to understand the purpose of science.
(1) It is not bad
(2) It is not against faith
(3) True science and true bible always go together. True science always seeks to improve our lives and well-being; it is not “bad”. Good science should have good goals such as:
(a) Betterment of health
(b) Better and cheaper technology
2- The Limits of the scientific method.
a- It is limited to the five senses.
(1) There can be a difference between the human interpretation of data and what the data really stands for.
b- The objective goal of the scientific method is not to determine what is ethical or moral.
(1) Scientific data has no moral value since it doesn’t have a conscience.
(2) Humans have a conscience.
(3) Science cannot establish a moral code for our society since it cannot prescribe social, ethical or moral truths.
(a) Science, by itself, cannot lead us to judgment or make us decide whether nuclear energy should be used to destroy a city or to cure cancer.
(b) These judgments or decisions need to be made outside the realm of science.
c- The scientific method is limited to the present.
(1) Science can only offer theories about events in the past or in the future.
(2) Science can only deal with:
(a) What is not subject to a specific time in the past or future
(b) Whatever can be reproduced at will in a controlled setting
(c) What is sure and known
(d) What is universal
(e) Whatever is not unique, meaning it can only happen one time
(3) Science depends on verification, necessitating experimentation and repeated investigation.
(4) Science cannot define the origin of the universe, it can only speculate.
(a) It can only depend on common and current data, verified by present experimental reproductions.
(b) It is impossible to scientifically prove any theory concerning the origin of man or the universe, or of any geological, historic or anthropological event.
(5) We cannot simulate (whether it is by physical or computer models) what we do not know.
3- Catastrophism vs. Uniformitarianism as a model to explain current topographical and geological patterns on the earth.
a- Uniformitarianism
(1) A model used by many scientists to explain current topography and geological activity.
(2) Mechanism: Through small and constant changes over a long period of time we arrive at what we see today on the earth.
(3) It suggests that fossil stratification represents geological ages as organic life evolved trough time.
(4) It suggests that alternating “ice ages” and “global warming” periods formed today’s valleys, rivers, canyons and the current meteorological regime.
b- Catastrophism
(1) Our planet, before the flood, had a very stable and warm climate throughout.
(2) The planet was covered with a Vapor Canopy, similar to Venus’ and Jupiter’s. Genesis 1:6-8
(3) This Canopy maintained a constant temperature of about 70º throughout the entire globe.
(4) Since the climate was very stable, there were no meteorological disturbances such as rain, high winds, thunder, snow or hail (No precipitation).
(a) This is in keeping with the biblical account of Creation: there was no precipitation of any kind before the flood; therefore, no one had ever seen rain, nor a rainbow. Genesis 2:4-10
(b) This also explains why tropical flora and fauna have been found buried in the ice in the north and south poles, proving these regions were under a different climate some time ago.
(5) The Bible states that God caused all the water to gather in one place so that dry land would appear. Genesis 1:9-10
(6) There were only small mountains and valleys on the surface of the pre-flood earth.
(7) All of this is in agreement with the hydroplate theory, which explains the occurrence of earthquakes and other current geological activity; mountains and all other topography we see today on the earth’s surface, including the differentiated topography at the bottom of our oceans.
(8) According to the Catastrophism, the major, rapid changes the Earth suffered explain the current geography, geology, topography and meteorology. The ante-diluvian Earth was a very different place than the current Earth. If you carefully study the Genesis text, you will be able to verify this.
c- Noah’s Flood
(1) The antediluvian Earth was also very stable in its form. There were no meteorological patterns that would disrupt the topography.
(2) The Bible teaches that the cataclysmic events began when God saw the wickedness amongst the people of the Earth. Only Noah was spared because he was a humble, obedient man.
(3) The Bible also says that God caused all the fountains of the deep and the floodgates of Heaven to burst open on one day (Genesis 7:11).
(4) This explanation makes a lot of sense when we understand the fountains of the deep to be the main driving force behind the Hydroplate Theory.
(5) Great stress caused by increased water pressure causes the crust to fail at a particular point.
(6) The crack runs along the path of least resistance until it circumnavigates all around the planet.
(7) The fountains of the deep spring forth from the crack at supersonic speeds, due to the great amount of pressure underneath the crust.
(8) The water jets out from the crack up to 100 or 200 miles above the surface of the earth.
(9) Due to the water jetting out so high above the atmosphere, water crystallizes rapidly and is attracted to the poles due to its molecular polar nature.
(10) The rapid frozen precipitation and accumulation traps plants and animals, leaving them encased in ice.
(11) This explains why tropical flora and fauna have been found encased in ice and why our polar caps are so large.
(12) As the water continues to spring forth from the crack in the crust, it erodes the crack spreading great amounts of sediment.
(13) This sediment is carried out by the waters, covering plants and animals, encasing them and preserving many features.
(14) This explains the vast fossil record throughout the earth, displaying all kinds of plants and animals, some of them in a surprised state.
(15) As the water pressure was great, it lifts up the earth underneath, causing a ridge to form just below the crack line. This subterranean ridge creates pressure against the hydroplate as the water stream begins to decrease in pressure.
(16) The hydroplates, or tectonic plates, begin to slide away from each other achieving speeds up to 45 miles an tour.
(17) When the plates collided with each other they buckled. The portions that buckled upward we call “mountain chains”. Those that buckled downward we call “valleys”. This is why the mountain chains are parallel to the oceanic ridges from where they slid away.
(18) When the new valleys are formed, space is created for all the water that has sprung forth to the earth’s surface. The space left by the sliding hydroplates is also filled up with water, causing the new topography to be revealed.
(19) As the vapor canopy dismantles and the poles freeze, a new weather regime takes place. This puts in motion the meteorological patterns of different kinds of precipitation we see today, along with winds and storms caused by changing pressures.
(20) Earthquakes, volcanic activity, and other geological phenomena are attributed to the continual sliding of the hydroplates.
(21) All 17 distinct topographical features on the surface of the Earth, along with geological, meteorological and anthropological phenomena can be systematically explained using the cataclysmic model expressed in the Bible.
(22) Many scientists are abandoning the long heralded uniformitarianist view for the catastrophic model, since all scientific data corroborate such a model.
